A veneer is a thin layer of “perfect” tooth coloured material which is placed over your natural tooth to mask the underlying enamel contours or defects to make the teeth look healthy and great. These are either composite, preformed or custom made veneers in various types of porcelain.
Veneers are designed to enhance the appearance of your teeth by -
- Masking permanently stained teeth.
- Closing gaps between your teeth because of size or shape problems.
- Straightening misaligned teeth.
- Improving the appearance of damaged or broken teeth due to decay or trauma.
At the consultation appointment you can discuss with us the concerns you have with your teeth and explain how you would like them improved. From our experience, we can advise you of suitability and likely results.
Composite Veneers or Bonding
Composite bonding has been used in dentistry for many years. Similar to porcelain veneers, composite bonding is an excellent way to repair cracked, chipped, and discoloured teeth as well as unusual shape and positioned teeth. The material has many colours and can match your natural teeth or changed depending on the desired effect. Bonding is probably the most conservative of all the cosmetic dentistry. It involves minimum alteration to the original tooth enamel, and is potentially reversible. The results are seen immediately.
These are prefabricated veneers which are modified and bonded into place. Primarily it is a cost saving alternative to porcelain veneers which shares the excellent surface of porcelain but at a lesser fee. As with all veneers the surface is prepared lightly and the appropriate pre-fabricated veneer is tried into place and bonded on to the tooth. We use Edelweiss Veneers which are prefabricated, laser sintered shells made of nano-hybrid composite. It is a new technology offering a clever minimally invasive alternative to porcelain veneers with real benefits such as "one appointment" long lasting, minimally invasive, natural looking and economical.
The procedure is usually completed in two visits and treatment is a simple and relatively quick route to improve your smile. The preparation is similar for crowns and bridges. Slight but significant variations are used in the method. Simply, part of the tooth to be covered is removed along with any fillings or core repairs. An impression is taken by using a gel into which your teeth are embedded. The indentations are an exact copy of your teeth and/or tooth preparations which enable our dental technicians to craft your restoration. Approximately 1-2 weeks later, the restoration is fitted and homecare instructions given for you to look after them.
We also provide teeth whitening and dental implants.
